About me
NatureKids BC is a recognized leader in family and children’s environmental education in British Columbia. Since 2000, we have created interactive, hands-on, in-nature experiences for families to learn about local environmental issues and connect with each other. Through our current Nature Clubs network we serve 1000 families in 28+ communities across BC.
Each month, Nature Club volunteer leaders plan a family nature activity suitable for children ages 5-12 (“Explorer Days”). Activities take place in BC parks and outdoor recreational spaces across the province, often engaging with local experts, nature mentors and stewardship and environmental organizations in their community to share their knowledge.
Examples of Explorer Days topics include:
Seasonal nature hikes and picnics
Bird identification walks, counts, community science and bird banding
Salmon life cycle and habitat exploration at hatcheries, riverbeds,
Native planting, including tree, shrub, and seed and invasive plant species removal
Tidal walks to understand tides, seashore wildlife and habitats and clean beaches
Through the Family Nature Clubs, our goal is to create a generation of curious, engaged and inspired children who are connected to Nature at such a deep level that they will be empowered and motivated to take action for nature now and in the future
