About me
Krista Spence, (she/her) BA, MA in Ed., RECE, Teacher-Librarian and Land-based Educator, works at the Dr. Eric Jackman Institute of Child Study Lab School, an elementary school in downtown Toronto. Krista was the recipient of the ‘Outstanding Early Childhood Educator’ EECOM award for 2021, the Frances Lincoln Children’s Librarian award in 2022, and has participated in ‘Land-Based Learning Research’ with George Brown College. She works closely with Natural Curiosity and has provided guest lectures to pre-service teachers regarding teaching critical literacy and selecting books to use in elementary classrooms. Her work with students includes in-class curriculum as well as on the restored meadow, wetland, and forest in the courtyard of the school.
