About me
Janna is a teacher advisor at Maples Met, a project-based learning secondary school in Winnipeg. Her teaching centers ecojustice and place-based pedagogies, designing learning experiences that build students’ connections to self, community, and the natural world. She completed her Master of Teaching at the University of Toronto, and her Master of Community Development Practice at the University of Winnipeg. In both graduate studies, she researched the role of youth in community building, and conversely, the role of community in youth identity-building. Prior to teaching, she was an environmental and nature-based educator working largely with youth in Winnipeg, Toronto and northern Manitoba. She is a mother of two young children, and thrives in the extreme seasonal changes that the prairies offer.
