About me
"Genevieve Prevost is a nehiyaw-skwew (cree woman) from the Beardy's and Okemasis First Nation in Saskatoon. A medicine carrier, knowledge keeper and teacher. She has been teaching for 18 years in a variety of areas including on reserve, inner-city elementary and Indigenous inner city high schools. Her focus this year is on using Cree Cultural land-based understandings around our connection to animals, birds, fish and plants. As an accredited science teacher, she can make connections to animals and plants in the cultural context, as well as science.
Growing up in the city of Saskatoon during a time when she had to hide her indigeneity rather than highlight her identity, it was difficult, but as an adult with the 94 Calls to Action from the Truth and Reconciliation Commission her journey has been flourishing. She spent four years with Kathleen Bird from the Peguis First Nation learning Indigenous medicines which complement her 4 year Bachelor of Science in Physiology."
