About me
Elder Dr. Albert Marshall (O.C, LLD) is from the Moose Clan of the Mi'kmaw Nation, Eskasoni First Nation in Unama'ki (Cape Breton), Nova Scotia and a fluent speaker of Mi'kmaw. He has brought forth the concept of Etuaptmumk (eh-doo-ahp-duh-mumk), the gift of multiple perspectives in the Mi’kmaw language, also known as Two-Eyed Seeing, which braids the strengths of Indigenous and non-Indigenous ways of knowing together for the benefit of all. Elder Marshall is the co-author of a children’s picture book, 'Walking Together' (Annick Press, 2023) with Louise Zimanyi, illustrated by Emily Kewageshig from Saugeen First Nation. The story introduces readers to the concept of Etuaptmumk/Two-Eyed Seeing, following a group of young children connecting to nature as teacher, nurturing respectful, reciprocal and responsible relationships.
