About me
"Hello! I’m Ali – I helped to found ClimbOut, the UK’s first queer rock climbing festival. The festival is in its third year and welcomes over 150 LGBTQ+ rock climbers from across the UK and Europe for three days of climbing and connection with the queer community (more info here: https://climbout.org/)
Over the last three years we’ve learned a lot about how to create an inclusive and joyful space for LGBTQ+ people in the outdoors. I want to share some of that learning with you!
I have a background working on LGBTQ+ inclusion in the UK – I started out at LGBT Foundation, one of the UK’s leading LGBTQ+ not-for-profits in Manchester. I then worked in the UK Government’s policy team working on LGBTQ+ data, inclusion and representation.
I now work on child poverty at Barnardo’s, one of the UK's largest not-for-profits. I'm visiting on a research project looking at how children from low-income backgrounds can be supported to access the outdoors."
