Land as Teacher-a settler perspective on incorporating Indigenous ways of knowing and being on the land LIMITED
Thursday May 8, 2025 3:15pm - 4:30pm MDT
This session will incorporate a holistic approach, centring our experiences around activating the mind, heart, body and spirit. We will explore the concept of sit-spots and examining the land through the Blackfoot concept of "okkakiosatoo"-or to "look carefully." We will do plant exploration and examine what is living, growing and thriving in the surrounding area to see what knowledge we can acquire and share collectively. We will gather in circle to discuss concepts explored by Indigenous Authors Robin Wall-Kimmerer and Leanne Betasamosake Simpson, and we will explore ways to incorporate Indigenous perspectives into classrooms in a wide variety of disciplines. Incorporating Indigenous ways of knowing, being, belonging and doing through a land-based approach is something that can seem scary, but through this session I will share tangible ways that you can help elevate and uplift these perspectives in your daily lives and practices.
